The bears represent tradition in the NFL being a chattered franchise of the national football. The bear’s team jersey is simply tradition. A tale of the team’s triumphs, struggle and 96 year history as a professional franchise. Since there inception they took on that big larger than life if you will masculine look that made them the rough franchise, the tough guys, the monsters of the midway and have won eight pre–Super Bowl NFL Championships, four conference championships, 18 division championships, and 26 playoff appearances. Despite this, the team has not appeared in the Super Bowl since 2007 and has not been in contention since 2010.
Both their image and colors created a life bond with the fans, we talk about a community that looks at here team and says; you know these is who we are, we are the tough guys. Bears owner George Halas went to the University of Illinois and brought his school colors to Chicago. Halas; an alumnus of the University of Illinois and a fan of the school’s blue-and-orange team colors, adopted a darker shade of these colors for his new team: navy blue rather than Illinois Blue and orange (Pantone 1665) instead of Illinois Orange. At the bears first year he edited a uniform detail to help his players. The verticals stripes that the bears had on their uniform in the early 20's was actually felt. It really had texture and was designed for the ball carrier to grip the ball against their body and for the ball to become less apt to be loose. Later in the mid 1930's the Chicago bears experimented with a bold use of color. The bears featured orange particularly the orange pants with a matching orange jersey. They showed up for a match and fans in the stands booed them mercilessly, the fans were simply so outraged at the color orange. I think the fans had never seen anything kind of that large or that bold before. Soon after in the early 1940's the bears adapted a more traditional look. It was really blue there was no orange, in the 70's is when the bears added that orange to their helmets and it was exotic. Today their iconic blue uniform with just a touch of orange continues to define Chicago, its fan's and there team. Blue and orange they are not just colors. They are tradition.
